This family cemetery was formerly located about one mile north of I-85 off the Parris Bridge Road. It was still there in August 1978 but has since been moved to the Willlis family plot in West Oakwood Cemetery, Spartanburg, S.C.

Local tradition tells us that Daniel Willis was buried at his request on or near the spot where he died. However, his obituary notice, which can be found in the Carolina Spartan newspaper, states that Mr. Willis was buried at a site that he had chosen many years earlier.

The remains of Hugh & Jane McClimon who was moved from the family burial ground due to the airport purchasing land in 1961.

Editor's Notes:

The obituary notice for Jane McClimons appears in the June 30, 1880 issue of the Carolina Spartan and reads as follows:

MRS. JANE McCLIMONS (Grisham, Wm. Grisham being her second husband) died in Spartanburg Co., S.C. at sunset on June 17, 1880. Her only two surviving children were by her bedside. She was born in Ireland May 1, 1786, and came to America at the age of 7 years. Her maiden name was Bailey. She married Hugh McClimons, also from Ireland. They belonged to the Seceder Church, but afterwards joined the Presbyterian, and they were the first members at Mt. Tabor, Greenville County. She always love to go to church, even after she became too deaf to hear.

Liberty Hill Methodist Protestant Church was founded in 1849 by dissidents from the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, who were vehemently opposed to slavery. During the tumultuous days of the Civil War, the "Seceder Church," which was looked upon with much suspicion by those loyal to the Confederate cause, ceased to exist. According to the 1937 W.P.A. Church Records Survey, this church was reorganized in the late 1880s and again occupied its original building, as it continues to do.
