Thursday March 11, 2010
Speaker: Mr. Jim S. Brooks, local attorney
Topic: The Ironworks on Lawsons Fork
Mr. Brooks will review the Colonial and Revolutionary War era iron making industry on Lawsons Fork Creek
in the area that became the town of Glendale in Spartanburg County.

Speaker: Mr. Julian Hankinson, Director of The Tyger River Foundation
"We promote, protect and restore the natural and historic resources of the Tyger River Basin
and encourage an active outdoor lifestyle."

Speaker: Rev. Kirk Neely, Pastor of Morningside Baptist Church, Spartanburg, SC
Reverend Neely is the author of several books on local history and is a frequent contributor of stories and articles to the
to the Spartanburg Herald newspaper.

Speaker: Nannie Jefferies,
Museum Administrator and Grants Specialist for The Spartanburg County Historical Association
Topic: A History of the Black Community in Spartanburg County
Time and Place: 7:00 PM in the West Wing Conference Room of Chapman Cultural Center

There will be no meeting in July.

Saturday August 21, 2010
Ola Jean Kelly, Director of the Union County Museum, will conduct a guided tour of the holdings in the
Union County Museum starting at 3:00 pm and continuing as necessary until 5:00 pm (closing time).
The Museum is located at
127 West Main Street
Union, South Carolina 29379.
After the tour, all those of our group who are interested are invited to meet at
Blue Bay Restaurant at 1533 John B. White Blvd in Spartanburg for supper together.
Please note that is date is the third Saturday of August.
